Tree Removal, Tregony

The client asked us to remove a large Leylandii tree that had become a structural risk to an outbuilding

Client Brief

The client asked us to remove a large Leylandii tree that had become a structural risk, with its root systems pulling up the corner of a nearby outbuilding. While the tree itself was healthy, it had been planted in the completely wrong place, and ultimately outgrew its welcome! The truck and root system were starting to generate cracks and dislodge the block work on the back corner of a garage, so the decision was taken to remove the tree to reduce further damage.

THRC Solution

Our tree surgery team gathered their chainsaws and chippers and carefully planned the removal, taking into account the tree’s challenging position: leaning over the garage and stretching across a nearby telephone line. To ensure maximum safety and reduce the risk of tree climbing, our operations manager opted to use a MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform), allowing the team to dismantle the tree methodically from the basket rather than relying on climbing techniques.

Before undertaking any works, our tree team did a visual survey of the tree, inspecting for any signs of nests or nesting birds, as the works took place in the middle of nesting season. Once confident that no wildlife would be disturbed, we proceeded with the removal. The canopy was chipped, logs were cut into manageable lengths, and the stump was cut down to ground level, and we were able to get the job done on time and within budget.

End Result

The tree was removed safely in its entirety, chipped all the canopy and processed all the logs into liftable lengths, and cut the stump to ground level. As Leylandii is a softwood species, the stump will not coppice or regrow, so the further disruption and damage to the outbuilding should stop worsening.

Throughout the project, our team worked tirelessly to maintain the highest safety standards, whilst keeping the client informed at all times, as well as liaising with nearby powerline contractors who were also on site.

This project reflects our commitment to delivering practical solutions with care, protecting property, safeguarding wildlife, and prioritising safe working practices at every step.
