Firewood Processing & Log Splitting

Sustainable Hardwood Firewood

Here at The Habitat Restoration Co., we go to great lengths in re-stocking and replenishing all the trees we work on. All our processed and split firewood comes from our sustainable tree felling operations, and the majority of our firewood stock comes from felled Ash trees suffering with Ash dieback disease. We replace this lost canopy with native UK broadleaf species either on site or in a pre-determined off-site location.

What We Offer

  • Sustainable, locally sourced firewood
  • Soft & hardwood logs
  • Efficient on-site log-splitting services
  • Firewood cutting & processing
  • Net loads, tonnes bag loads, tipper loads
  • Kiln dried kindling

What is the Best Wood for Your Fire?

Here are some golden rules and top tips to look for when purchasing or burning hardwood logs:

  1. Ensure moisture content is 20% or less.
  2. The best UK sustainable hardwood timbers are Oak, Ash, & Birch.
  3. Weight – when comparing similar-sized logs of the same species, if the log is heavier it might still be wet.
  4. Sound – a hollow sound when tapping indicates dry logs.
  5. Cracked ends – this can indicate dry logs.
  6. Bark – the looser the bark, the drier the log.
  7. Colour – dry logs can be lighter in colour.
  8. Make sure to never burn anything that’s been chemically treated, painted or stained.
